Man high on Meth led to wild Police chase in Altoona; Arrested after cops used Taser

A 33-year-old Wisconsin man was detained late Wednesday night after cops were dispatched to a Kwik Trip following repeated reports of a ‘erratic’ individual outside.

People told the Altoona Police Department that the man entered a vehicle and removed his shirt at the Kwik Trip on Baumbach Way. Officers discovered the man leaving a vehicle and driving erratically.

The suspect apparently stopped after police made an initial effort, and negotiations between the two parties began. He allegedly refused to exit the vehicle, and officers said he displayed signs of meth use as he left.

He stopped twice for officers who sought to persuade him to exit the vehicle, but he ran both times and allegedly broke traffic regulations. The Eau Claire County Sheriff’s Office deployed tyre deflation devices, while Altoona Police attempted to block the suspect car.

During another stop, the suspect, Joshua Shult of Ladysmith, exited the car while reportedly resisting arrest; nonetheless, authorities used a taser to take him into custody.

Officers discovered meth, THC, and other drug paraphernalia in the automobile. Shult was reportedly detained for drugged driving two days prior in Rusk County, and he faces the following counts for the incident:

  • 2nd OWI
  • Fleeing/Eluding
  • Resisting arrest
  • Meth possession
  • THC possession
  • Drug paraphernalia possession

Shult’s vehicle and a police squad car each had one flat tyre, but no damage to other vehicles or property was reported.
