A Mesquite police pursuit on Monday morning resulted in the arrest of a Dallas murder suspect. While in detention, the subject allegedly assaulted four cops, biting two of them.
According to police, Skylar Wells, 31, took an automobile from a storage facility along U.S. Highway 80 in Mesquite.
Not long after, an officer noticed the automobile speeding and swerving. He attempted to halt it.
The officer chased, and as he radioed it in, another cop informed him that it was a recently stolen car.
“They were aware of the fact that that was a taken vehicle from within the city,” said Sgt. Curtis Phillip with the Mesquite Police Department.
Spike strips deflated a tire, and cops arrested Wells.
Once in jail, authorities discovered that Wells was wanted for the April 10 murder of Gerald Frazier, a Dallas youth football coach.
“They had no idea about the murder warrant, just acting in good instinct,” Sgt. Phillips said.
According to an arrest warrant complaint, Frazier let Wells stay at a residence on Springview Drive in South Dallas.
But Frazier wanted Wells to leave because he was “bringing constant traffic into the home and destroying the residence,” according to the affidavit.
That’s when witnesses claimed Wells shot and killed Frazier.
In addition to homicide, car theft, and fleeing arrest, Wells is charged with four counts of assault on a public worker.
He allegedly became combative after being booked into jail, assaulting four officers who attempted to retrain him and biting two of them.
Wells is currently being held in the Dallas County Jail with a $760,000 bail.
