Mayor Puckett looks forward to July Fourth celebration

We are reminded of the liberties we are so fortunate to have as citizens of the greatest country in the world as July approaches. Independence Day is a celebration of bravery, selflessness, and the unwavering spirit of liberty that characterizes America; it is more than just fireworks and get-togethers. The men and women who have fought and are still fighting to defend the liberties we celebrate this month and each month should never be taken for granted.

In Helena, we take great pride in celebrating our nation’s independence. On Wednesday, July 3rd, we will have our annual Independence Celebration. I cordially invite everyone to join us for one of the summer’s most anticipated events. At Amphitheater Park, where food, beverages, and crafts for all ages will be available from vendors, gates will open at 5:00 PM. The iconic Cracker will perform through our breathtaking fireworks display at 9:00 PM, after The Record Company takes the stage at 6:30 PM. This ceremony attracts hundreds of locals and tourists every year, and I’m sure it will be another memorable occasion. Let’s celebrate our independence under the sky with your families, lawn chairs, and sense of patriotism.

I want to take a time to think back on our June Old Town Live concert as we prepare for our July celebration. Unfortunately, we were unable to enjoy the event as intended due to uncooperative weather. Nevertheless, our committed volunteers with the HOTBoard didn’t miss a beat, in typical Helena flair. They changed course, adjusted, and ensured that the historic Old Town stage could still host a small acoustic performance. Although it wasn’t what we had in mind, the passion and hard work of our community volunteers made it something truly unique. The unselfish people who donate their time and skills to make our city shine are the reason Helena is stronger.

The Helena High School softball team deserves a hearty congratulations for winning the 6A State Championship in 2025! What a fantastic achievement by a superb team of student-athletes. It was a privilege to acknowledge them at the June community Council meeting because of their commitment, perseverance, and collaboration, which have made our community proud. These young ladies serve as role models in our community in addition to being champions on the field.

On a more serious note, we were very saddened by Jack Gray’s untimely death. He was a real pillar of Helena. Jack spent over 30 years of his life volunteering, which helped to create the city that we all enjoy today. Our town will always bear the scars of his legacy. For many others, Jack was more than just a volunteer; he was a friend, neighbor, and leader. His wife, Stephanie, and the whole Gray family have my deepest sympathies. Jack will be sorely missed, but we are thankful for his influence.

As we move forward, I would want to remind everyone that August 26, 2025, is the date of the Helena Municipal Election. Now that the qualifying period is over, the list of applicants is finalized. I urge every resident to spend some time learning about the candidates—not just what they have said, but also what they have done. Examine their prior service, comprehend their vision for Helena, and select a leader you think will lead with passion and integrity. Your vote is your voice, and this is our city.

With the people you care about, I hope your July is full of fun, sunshine, and enduring memories. Take a time to consider how lucky we are to live in a location like Helena and a nation like the United States of America, whether you’re watching fireworks in the park, cooling off in the splash pad, or just hanging out with your neighbors.

May God continue to bless Helena and our wonderful country on this Independence Day.

As One,

Brian
