Mike Myers announces candidacy for Ward 1 on Alabaster City Council

ALABASTER

– Longtime Alabaster resident Mike Myers announced his candidacy as representative for Ward 1 on the Alabaster City Council.

“I am excited to announce my candidacy for Alabaster City Council, Ward 1,” Myers said in an official press release. “As a longtime resident and community advocate, I am committed to ensuring Alabaster continues to serve its residents in the best possible way.”

Myers moved to the city of Alabaster in 2007 and has since worked to be an active member of the community by participating in a variety of roles. Myers has served on the Weatherly Residential Homeowners Association board since 2013 with six of those years as its president. Myers was a graduate of the city’s inaugural Government Academy class and has been leading the Alabaster Downtown Redevelopment Authority as its chairman since 2023. Myers also served on the Alabaster Parks and Recreation Board from 2017 to 2020.

“Beyond leadership roles, I have devoted time to volunteering by helping families in need through the Red Cross Project Share program and coaching youth baseball for over a decade,” Myers said.

Myers’ campaign platform for Alabaster City Council Ward 1 includes the following goals:

  • Find traffic solutions for Highway 11 by working with city leadership to manage increased traffic from residential development
  • Focus on revitalization efforts and continue addressing vacant structures along Highway 11
  • Support city growth and progress through existing initiatives while advancing future development plans
  • Expand the reach of the Alabaster Downtown Redevelopment Authority program
  • Strengthen support for youth athletics and sports programs
  • Champion efforts to bring in businesses and activities for residents ages 18 and under

Myers has 17 years of experience in the banking sector and 10 years of public service at the Alabama State Treasurer’s Office.

“I bring a wealth of knowledge in financial management and governmental operations,” Myers said.

Myers and his wife, Kim, have been married for 24 years and have raised their two sons, Carson and Ethan, in Alabaster with both graduating from Thompson High School in 2022 and 2027 respectively.

“I look forward to working together to continue making Alabaster a place we are all proud to call home,” Myers said. “I would be honored to have your support on Tuesday, Aug. 26.”

Prior to Myers’ announcement, Incumbent Ward 1 Councilperson Sophie Martin shared that she is

not seeking reelection

after serving on the Alabaster City Council for 17 years.
