MONTEVALLOResidents will soon have the chance to speak with the candidates face-to-face during an electoral forum as the 2025 Montevallo Municipal electoral approaches.
On Tuesday, August 5, from 6:30 to 8 p.m., the Parnell Memorial Library Theatre will host a Montevallo Candidates Forum, which will be co-hosted by the Shelby County Chamber, the Montevallo Chamber of Commerce, and Shelby County Newsmedia, Inc., the producers of Shelby Living magazine and the Shelby County Reporter.
The disputed contests in Montevallo’s municipal election, such as the mayoral campaign and City Council Districts 4 and 5, will be highlighted at the event.
Candidates for Districts 4 and 5 will each get five minutes to discuss their programs and the reasons they are running for office on the Montevallo City Council after a quick introduction by a representative from one of the hosting chambers.
A moderated Q&A session will then be held between incumbent Rusty Nix and challenger Rod Macpherson, who are both running for mayor. The same set of questions will be asked of each candidate, and neither will be given access to them beforehand. Their response time will be roughly three minutes, and the sequence of their answers will alternate according to alphabetical sequencing.
At the conclusion of the event, each mayoral candidate will have up to three minutes to make a closing speech; there won’t be any opening remarks. Before the forum starts, a random drawing will be used to decide the sequence of closing speeches.
The timekeeper will be a Shelby County Reporter representative who will use countdown cards to assist candidates in managing their allocated time.
On Tuesday, August 26, the Montevallo Municipal Election will be held. The first Monday in November will mark the official inauguration of the candidates chosen in the municipal election. Visit Cityofmontevallo.com/2025MunicipalElectionInformation.aspx to learn more about the election.
