New Forecast Predicts Timing of First Potential Tropical Storm Targeting Florida

According to a recent AccuWeather projection, the first tropical storm of the Atlantic hurricane season may develop between June 6 and June 13. The Florida Keys may be impacted from June 10 to June 13.

June 1 to November 30 is the Atlantic hurricane season. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) issued its storm forecast for 2025 earlier this month.

During this year’s Atlantic hurricane season, NOAA researchers predict that 13 to 19 named storms will form, six to ten of which will intensify into hurricanes, and three to five of which will intensify into major hurricanes.

According to the report, NOAA forecasters have a 70 percent confidence level in the ranges.

In the Eastern Pacific, where forecasts and seasonal predictions diverge from those for the Atlantic season, Tropical Storm Alvin has already developed.

Tropical Storm Alvin emerged earlier than usual on Thursday after strengthening from a tropical depression, but the Eastern Pacific season officially begins on May 15.

According to a forecast released by AccuWeather on Friday, the first storm of the year may start to form in the Atlantic between June 6 and June 13.

A number of weather systems are influencing the potential formation of tropical storms, such as the emergence of moisture that might cause showers and thunderstorms over the weekend from South Florida south through Jamaica.

Additionally, there is a “pulse of low pressure,” the paper states.

Through June 13, there is almost no probability of tropical rain or wind throughout the U.S. coastline; however, AccuWeather classified the Florida Keys as low risk, which is a little higher.

Depending on the storm’s trajectory, U.S. consequences could happen closer to mid-June if one does materialize.

The NHC does not anticipate any tropical activity in the Atlantic during the next seven days, even though AccuWeather issued a low risk for tropical development in the southern Gulf and western Caribbean between June 6 and June 13.

Andrea will be the first storm to be named for the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season.

AccuWeather tropical meteorologist Alex Duffus stated in the report: “This pulse will be moving slowly through the zone from the western Caribbean and southern Gulf around the same time when a surge of moisture may develop. For these reasons and a drop in disruptive winds in the region, we are issuing a chance for tropical development.”

June 1 marks the start of the Atlantic hurricane season. Forecasts should be followed and people in high-risk areas should be ready for tropical storms or hurricanes.
