According to authorities, three ladies stole more than $300 worth of products from a Nike store in Naperville before leading police on a chase that ended in Chicago.
Emiaya Shannon, 27, Shawanda Outlaw, 28, and Martasia Barney, 27, all of Chicago, appeared in DuPage County First Appearance Court on Thursday.
According to the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office, each has been charged with one crime of burglary (a Class 2 felony) and one count of retail theft (a Class 3 felony).
Barney is also facing a misdemeanour charge for fleeing and eluding a police officer.
The accusations come from an incident on Wednesday about 4:20 p.m., when Shannon and Outlaw allegedly entered the Nike Well Collective store in Naperville, selected 20 articles of clothing valued more than $300, and then left without paying. Prosecutors say the couple escaped in a car driven by Barney.
A Naperville police officer attempted to pull the vehicle over, but Barney apparently did not stop.
The Chicago Police Department dispatched a helicopter, which tracked the trio to the city, where they were apprehended shortly thereafter.
All three ladies were freed pretrial and are barred from entering any Nike stores. They are expected to appear in court on May 5.
