A guy was caught and charged following a midnight vehicle burglary in Madison County.

According to the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a 911 call reporting a vehicle burglary in progress on Hamer Road in the Owens Cross Roads subdivision.

Authorities said homeowners reported seeing a male suspect breaking into their vehicle and quickly dialed 911 for assistance. Deputies arrived swiftly on the site, set up a perimeter, and began searching the area with multiple police units and a Sheriff’s Office K9.

During the hunt, deputies reported seeing a strange car near the original scene. A traffic check was made, and the driver, identified as 19-year-old James Briggs, was discovered covered in mud and without shoes, which investigators claimed closely matched the description supplied by the homeowner.

Briggs was booked at Madison County Jail.

Sheriff Kevin Turner praised the deputies’ swift response and teamwork.

“This is a great example of what happens when our community and deputies work together,” Turner told the crowd.

“Thanks to a vigilant homeowner and our agency’s fast response, we were able to quickly locate and apprehend the suspect.”
