Philadelphia 76ers waive former Alabama forward

Alex Reeseon, a former Alabama forward, was dismissed by the Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday, the NBA organization stated.

Reese was cut by the Sixers in order to sign forward Dominick Barlow to a two-way deal.

Reese was a member of the 76ers summer league squad and appeared in 14 games for Philadelphia during the 2024–25 season. On Saturday, the first day of the Salt Lake City Summer League, Philadelphia lost to the Utah Jazz 93-89, despite the 6-foot-9 forward contributing two points and three rebounds in 12:18 of playing time. However, due to Achilles soreness, he was unable to participate in the games on Monday and Tuesday.

Reese won the Class 6A boys’ Player of the Year award from the Alabama Sports Writers Association for the 2016–17 season and was selected to the All-State team three times while attending Pelham High School.

Reese averaged 6.1 points and 3.3 rebounds in 124 games over his four seasons at Alabama.

Reese took a year off from basketball to work as a bartender and a furniture mover, but he made a comeback in the 2022–2023 season, averaging 23.7 points per game in the Luxembourg Basketball League. During the 2023–24 NBA Gatorade League season, Reese averaged 11.5 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks in 43 games with the Rip City Remix.

On October 27, in the Oklahoma City Thunder’s 128-104 victory over the Atlanta Hawks, Reese made his NBA debut with a basket and a rebound in 1:53 on the court. However, he didn’t play for Oklahoma City again.

On February 20, Philadelphia signed Reese from Rip City. Reese averaged 15.3 minutes, 5.3 points, and 3.3 rebounds in 14 Sixers games.

During the 2024–25 season, Reese averaged 16.1 points, 6.7 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 1.2 steals, and 1.7 blocked shots in 26 games for the Remix and five games for the Delaware Blue Coats of the NBA G League.

Over the last three seasons, 6-foot-9 big Barlow has averaged 3.2 points and 3.1 rebounds in 96 NBA regular-season games.

At 9 p.m. CDT on Thursday, the 76ers take on the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA 2K26 Summer League in Las Vegas. The game will be broadcast on ESPN.
