Rain and clouds dominate week, but to 60s return this weekend in Chicago

Chilly and overcast conditions persist across the Chicago area, but a warm spring shift is on the horizon for the weekend.

On Tuesday, most locations struggled to climb out of the 40s, and the below-average temperatures are expected to hold steady through Friday.

Tonight will start with mostly clear skies, but clouds will build overnight. Temperatures are set to dip into the low to mid-30s.

A new weather system moves in on Wednesday, bringing periods of rain throughout the day. While there’s a slight chance of snowflakes mixing in during the morning, most of the precipitation will be rain.

Some showers may stick around into Thursday, although the day is likely to remain mostly cloudy overall.

Improvement begins Friday, with partly cloudy skies and highs approaching the upper 40s to around 50 degrees.

The significant change comes over the weekend.

Saturday will bring sunshine and temperatures in the mid to upper 50s. By Sunday, highs are expected to reach the mid to upper 60s, making it the warmest day of the week and providing a welcome taste of spring.
