Rain and hail possible midweek before New Mexico heats up for the weekend

On Tuesday afternoon, there was a noticeable decline in the number of showers and storms across New Mexico. Thunderstorms continued to impact northern and western New Mexico, with some areas, such as Farmington, experiencing significant rainfall once more. Today brought a rise in temperatures across much of the state, accompanied by the arrival of drier conditions.

Tonight, we are witnessing the emergence of showers and storms, particularly affecting western, central, and northern regions of New Mexico. Tonight, the Albuquerque Metro is experiencing rain due to the convergence of outflow boundaries. Expect multiple rounds of rain across the northern regions of the state until Wednesday morning.

Expect a decrease in showers late Wednesday morning; however, as the day warms up, additional showers and storms are likely to form in the early afternoon. The storms are set to shift towards the east and northeast, affecting regions along and north of I-40. Expect significant rainfall and the possibility of large hail. Storms are expected to make a return to the Albuquerque Metro on Wednesday afternoon.

Initially, storms will subside in western New Mexico, while additional storms are expected to form on Wednesday evening in the eastern regions of the state. Clear skies are expected to make a comeback across the state by Thursday morning.

This week is set to deliver a shift towards drier and hotter conditions across much of New Mexico. Scattered afternoon storms may occur in the northern mountains and far eastern New Mexico until Saturday. Get ready for a significant rise in temperatures as we head into the weekend.

Expect a return of storm chances across eastern New Mexico on Sunday, with rain likely making its way into the Rio Grande Valley by early next week. Heat will continue to dominate throughout the state.
