“On May 17, certain Department of Motor Vehicles offices located in Los Angeles and Orange counties will be open for appointments related to REAL ID,” the state agency stated on Friday.
“Even though the federal enforcement deadline has passed, the DMV will continue to offer REAL IDs to Californians who want one,” DMV director Steve Gordon stated. “We’re making it easier for customers to upgrade by offering additional weekend appointments.”
During the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, the offices that are indicated below will be open for appointments only.

Those residents who do not possess a REAL ID have the option to postpone upgrading until the time comes for them to renew their driver’s license.
For the time being, other documents that are recognized by the federal government, such as a passport that is still valid or a permanent residence card, can be utilized to board domestic flights.
The application process for a REAL ID can be started online by residents of the state of California.
Be ready to do the following before commencing the application process:
- If you have not already established a login for your DMV online account, you should do so now.
- In addition to the traditional pieces of information, such as your name, address, and date of birth, you need also have your Social Security number on hand.
- Visit a field officer to complete the remaining steps of the application procedure for a driver’s license or identification card.
- About nine minutes is the typical amount of time required to finish the application. If the user is logged out, the application could be completed at a later time.
