Rep. Kenneth Paschal announces reelection bid for Alabama House District 73

By Staff Writer Dave Domezik

PELHAMIn order to continue serving as the representative for District 73, which encompasses parts of Alabaster, Helena, Montevallo, and Pelham, State Representative Kenneth Paschal has formally declared his intention to run for reelection to the Alabama House of Representatives.

Paschal, a Republican who served in the Army and is an outspoken advocate for traditional conservative principles, stated that his campaign is still based on the motto that has characterized his public service: God and Country.

In a statement, Paschal said, “I ran to serve not to make promises, but to uphold the Constitution and defend the rights and values of the people of Alabama.” I will continue to battle for God, my nation, and the families of District 73 with your unwavering support.

After winning a special election in 2021 and earning a full term in 2022, Paschal became the first Black Republican elected to the Alabama Legislature in almost 140 years. He has promoted individual liberty, limited government, and bolstering Alabama families ever since he took office.

Paschal stated that he intends to concentrate on the following legislative goals in the run-up to his second term:

-Relief from taxes for working families

Improvements to public safety in small communities

Parental decision-making and education to strengthen families

Job creation and economic growth in Shelby County and the state

defending parental rights and family values, which are key components of his agenda

The Alabama Republican Party recently presented Paschal with the Defender of Freedom Award in appreciation of his leadership in the statehouse and his unwavering support for conservative ideas.

A number of infrastructural initiatives he completed while in government were also mentioned in his reelection announcement:

-The ongoing $300 million I-65 widening project, which runs from Alabaster to Calera

-$41.8 million to widen Pelham’s Highway 261.

-The largest train crossing grant in the country, $41.7 million, was awarded by the federal government for the Highway 52 flyover in Pelham with the goals of enhancing safety, cutting down on traffic delays, and strengthening emergency response.

According to Paschal, serving the residents of District 73 has been an honor of a lifetime. I’m still dedicated to creating a better future for our district and our state, which includes empowering parents, shielding families from government overreach, and ensuring significant investments in public safety and infrastructure.

After serving in the U.S. Army for 21 years, Paschal resigned in 2006 and moved back to Alabama, where he has continued to be involved in civic affairs. He is on the Shelby County Republican Executive Committee, a member of the Governmental Affairs Committee of the Shelby County Chamber of Commerce, and a former post commander of the American Legion.

According to Paschal, Alabama needs leaders who live up to their principles, stand up for them, and produce tangible outcomes. I’m running in order to continue doing that.
