Rite Aid Closing 19 California Locations as Part of Broader Store Shutdowns

Rite Aid, the pharmaceutical company, may soon start liquidating stores before selling its buildings and leases at auction, according to court records following its second bankruptcy filing earlier this week.

A&G Real Estate Partners is now anticipated to put almost all of its 1,240 stores for sale, subject to court approval. A flier listing 50 fee-owned properties and 1,187 retail leases spread across 15 states.

According to A&G Real Estate Partners, auctions and rolling bid deadlines are planned for the upcoming months, beginning in May. On Tuesday, court paperwork detailing the anticipated auction procedure were submitted.

Rite Aid previously stated that while they assist consumers in moving their prescriptions to another location, their stores would stay open.

However, other court filings on Tuesday listed the Rite Aid stores that were expected to be part of the initial round of closures. According to the case docket, the scheme still requires judicial approval.

The Rite Aid Collaboration Centre in Philadelphia and the Rite Aid Valley Green Office Facility in Etters, Pennsylvania, were named as affected locations in the letter.

The letter reads, “We apologize that we were unable to provide more advance notice of this action. We are providing this notice to you as soon as practicable. Rite Aid has been actively seeking capital, including negotiating with its lenders for additional capital to continue to run its business. Unfortunately, our efforts were unsuccessful.”
