ColumbiaWendy Cespedes was appointed as the next principle of Oak Mountain Elementary School by the Shelby County Schools Board of Education during a regularly scheduled meeting on Thursday, June 26.
Cespedes has more than ten years of expertise in education and was the principal of Montevallo Elementary School before that. She graduated from Grand Canyon University with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and the American College of Education with a Master of Science in Education Leadership.
According to Super Intendent Dr. Lewis Brooks, Cespedes is dedicated to fostering a caring, motivating atmosphere for students, staff, and families while fostering strong relationships.
Cespedes, who has been a student in Shelby County her entire academic career, has a great deal of respect for the county and is grateful for the time she has spent in its schools.
“Working in Shelby County for my entire professional career is a privilege,” Cespedes added. It is without a doubt the state’s best district.
Cespedes made sure to thank Montevallo, even though she is eager for the next phase of her career.
First and foremost, Cespedes expressed gratitude for the chance to serve the Montevallo community. A part of my heart will always be in Montevallo, and it has been a genuine privilege. I had the opportunity of collaborating with the University (of Montevallo) and working with some amazing people.
Cespedes praised the efforts of her predecessor, seasoned teacher Jan Curtis, as she gets ready to start her new career at Oak Mountain Elementary.
Cespedes expressed his excitement about the chance to continue his adventure at Oak Mountain Elementary. As I work with the students, faculty, and families there, I’m excited to continue the excellence that Mrs. (Jan) Curtis has left behind.
Additionally, the board recognized its transportation division. The Alabama Schools Transportation Association selected Wanda Adams Secretary of the Year and Rick Vines Supervisor of the Year for Transportation in Alabama Schools.
“I want to acknowledge the entire transportation department, but I’m really proud of both of them and their service,” Brooks said.
On Thursday, July 3 at noon, the board will meet again at the Central Office in Columbiana for a special convened meeting.
