Not often do we come across movies that have non-mainstream professionals as their lead protagonists. We have all seen superhero movies, amazing common man movies, friendship movies, rom-coms etc but the thing that remains common in most of them is a similar kind of characteristics in the lead roles. ‘Sister Act’ is a movie that breaks the usual norms and brings several unique things to the table.

Another great thing about the movie that has been appraised by many is the overall soundtrack. With tracks like ‘The Lounge Medley’, ‘Rescue Me’, ‘The Murder’, ‘Roll With Me Henry’ etc, it has touched and swayed people’s hearts. The musical film also did well at the box office and under reviews by the critics.

Sister Act: What is it about?

The first ‘Sister Act’ movie was released in the year 1992 and it falls under the ‘Comedy’ category. It has a total running time of 1 hour 40 minutes. The movie has been directed by Emile Ardolino and written by Paul Rudnick. It has been produced by a pair of people namely, Scott Rudin and Teri Schwartz.

The cinematography has been done by Adam Greenberg and the music has been composed by Marc Shaiman. The production companies involved with the film are Touchstone Pictures and Touchwood Pacific Partners I.

The tale of the film revolves around a female who happens to be a lounge singer but forced to get into a convent after a certain kind of a program. This particular role is presented by Whoopi Goldberg who has been incredible in it. Some of the other star cast of the movie include Maggie Smith as Reverend Mother, Bill Nunn as Lieutenant Eddie Souther, Joseph Maher as Monsignor O’Hara, Harvey Keitel as Vince LaRocca, Mary Wickes as Sister Mary Lazarus, Robert Miranda as Joey, Jim Beaver as Clarkson, Wendy Makkena as Sister Mary Patrick, Jenifer Lewis as Michelle and so on.

Is Sister Act 3 Happening?

It’s definitely happening! Tyler Perry in a recent interview said, “We are pretty far down the line, and in the script and in the production of it so it’s — I’m really excited for it.”

Tyler Perry is behind the upcoming third movie in the trilogy, he was convinced to make Whoopi Goldberg– who is returning to reprise her character as Deloris Van Cartier and her observer defense alter ego, Sis Mary Clarence– and her character and the movie’s 3-decade long legacy.

“It’s more Whoopi than anything. I wanted it to be the experience that I had watching both of them,” Perry confessed of the previous two movies in the trilogy. “I want everybody who watches it to feel that way coming out of the theater, to feel that sense of good in life.”

He further added, “And as far as Whoopi goes too, because I just want to make sure that she was honoring Dolores and honoring the ladies and the nuns, and what they had done before, so, I’m pretty excited about the script. It’s going to be really, really phenomenal.”

Sister Act 3 Release Date: When is Sister Act 3 hitting the theatres?

Coming to the ‘Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit’, this one got released in the successive year to the prior one. It was directed by Bill Duke and written by James Orr, Jim Cruickshank and Judi Ann Mason. It starred almost the same set of people and was able to touch people’s hearts again. This has raised people’s expectations even more for the coming sequel. Although it’s been a long gap in between, the movie is most probably going to happen.

According to some reports, the confirmation was made in the pandemic year, 2020. There is no concrete information regarding when and how but the movie is definitely under the talks of the makers but the upcoming movie likely might arrive by 2023 at the earliest that is all we can say for now.

The upcoming Cast of Sister Act 3: Who could be in it?

It’s unknown who’ll return in the upcoming movie but it’s expected that the old cast will be reprising their respective roles including Maggie Smith (as Reverend Mother), Bill Nunn (as Lieutenant Eddie Souther), Joseph Maher (as Monsignor O’Hara), Harvey Keitel (as Vince LaRocca), Mary Wickes ;as Sister Mary Lazarus), Robert Miranda (as Joey), Jim Beaver (as Clarkson), Wendy Makkena (as Sister Mary Patrick), and Jenifer Lewis (as Michelle).

Sister Act 3 Plot: What could be the story of Sister Act 3?

The plot might be somewhere similar but with a different touch and the star, the cast will consist of some of the similar people in the major roles. Although this cannot be guaranteed completely, people would love to get a nostalgic feel so the makers might decide to bring back some characters. There is no teaser, first look or trailer out yet. With both the past films being so good, the makers feel a heavy responsibility to forge this one with good time.

On one hand, fans cannot wait to witness the fun and the humour back again while on the other, the makers cannot wait to start the making as well. But since good artwork takes time, fans are requested to have patience. Until the next release, let us all enjoy the first two films and get some nostalgic feels back on the table again.
