FROM WORKER REPORTS
MONTEVALLOSonya Swords, a local entrepreneur, civic activist, and current member of the Montevallo City Council, has formally declared her intention to run for reelection to the Montevallo City Council, serving as the representative for District 4. The city’s municipal election is scheduled for Tuesday, August 26.
Longtime Montevallo resident Swords is renowned for her dedication to ethics, financial management, and forming solid alliances that promote community development. The city’s General Fund has almost doubled during her tenure, over $2 million in grant funding has been obtained, and Montevallo has increased public safety investment while putting long-term financial stability first.
The real effort has been in building a solid basis for our city’s future, making sure we’re fiscally stable and positioned for wise, sustainable growth, even while some projects garner headlines, Swords said.
As an advocate for Montevallo’s youngsters, Swords has concentrated on fostering closer linkages with neighborhood schools and funding initiatives that improve students’ access to sports and education.
According to her, these connections are important. New sports and educational facilities in many cities are made feasible by close cooperation. Having such discussions and advocating for our students to have the resources they require to thrive have become top priorities for me.
In an effort to build on the enthusiasm in the community, Swords recently qualified to run for re-election and is looking for ongoing support from District 4 citizens. Her program for reelection consists of:
A strong dedication to ethics, openness, and budgetary accountability
Increasing public involvement to improve neighborhood safety
Sustained funding for youth and educational collaborations
Making certain that first responders have the equipment and supplies they require
preserving and enhancing the public infrastructure in Montevallo
Encouraging intelligent growth to improve Montevallo
“I know how important public safety is as a mother and a businesswoman,” Swords said. We must safeguard our fire and police forces and keep making investments in our city. I’ll keep pushing for Montevallo to be a proud place for you to raise your kids.
Along with her work in government, Swords is a prosperous local businesswoman who owns a number of modest companies that offer Montevallo residents real estate, entertainment, and recreational services. She graduated from the University of Montevallo with a bachelor’s degree in speech-language pathology. She has worked as a paralegal for more than seven years at one of the biggest law companies in Alabama, where she also held a position under the Jefferson County Conservator.
Swords and her spouse, Mike, are parents to two kids: a daughter named Blake and a son named Kemp.
