According to authorities from the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, a 27-year-old Triad man died in an accident.
On Wednesday, about 6:35 a.m., troopers responded to a crash on Interstate 77 S near Interstate 40 in Iredell County. Officials stated a Mitsubishi was on I-77 and did not slow down.
According to officials, the Mitsubishi collided with a Volvo semi-truck that was not towing a trailer. The incident also prompted the semi-truck to collide with a Chevrolet SUV.
The driver of the Mitsubishi, Jared Nelson, 27, died of his injuries at the site.
According to officials, the semi-truck driver suffered minor injuries, while the SUV driver was uninjured.
Officials said they suspect the incident was caused by excessive speed.
