FROM WORKER REPORTS
HOOVERAfter living in Hoover since 1974, Steve Lawrence, a seasoned businessman with 28 years of expertise in risk management and commercial insurance, has formally declared his intention to run for Place 5 on the Hoover City Council.
According to Lawrence, he is motivated by a profound admiration for Hoover’s accomplishments and the belief that he merits considerate, open leadership. According to Lawrence, he is dedicated to practical problem-solving, community involvement, and financial prudence.
Lawrence stated, “I’m running for City Council because I care, not because I’m a politician.” Too many decisions have been taken in a hurry, without complete transparency, and with little consideration for how they will affect our families and future. The time for change has come.
According to Lawrence, his decades of experience resolving challenging issues for companies all around the nation have given him a special talent for the position. He has cultivated abilities in strategic thinking and practical execution as a result of growing up in an engineering household and succeeding in a profession centered on communication and analysis.
Lawrence will highlight important concerns affecting Hoover citizens during his campaign, such as:
- Restoring fiscal discipline: With Hoover experiencing record revenue, spending, and debt in recent years, Lawrence aims to ensure every taxpayer dollar is spent wisely, with full transparency and accountability
- Supporting public safety: As a firm advocate for Hoover s police and fire departments, Lawrence pledged to prioritize resources and respect for those who protect the city daily
- Protecting education: With personal ties to local schools his daughter currently attends Hoover High Lawrence aims to support strong leadership and oversight in appointments to the board of education
- Community-centered governance: Lawrence shared that he promises to listen first, ask the hard questions and attend every City Council meeting and planning session with diligence
Lawrence and his wife, April, have been married for about 25 years. Lawrence was born in Minnesota and grew up in Hoover. They have three children—two attending college and one attending Hoover High School—and are involved members of Shades Mountain Baptist Church.
Protecting What Works is the slogan Lawrence used for his campaign. Improving What Matters seeks to demonstrate his reverence for the city’s history and commitment to enhancing Hoover’s future.
Lawrence stated, “I’m proud of where Hoover has been, but I’m even more hopeful for where we can go.” Asking the proper questions, fighting for the sort of leadership our city deserves, and serving with purpose are the reasons I’m running.
