Sunny and windy Monday; Severe storms could arrive late in Chicagoland

It will be warm and windy on Monday, with south winds that can reach speeds of above 40 mph. It is predicted that temperatures would rise to about 80 degrees.

Most places keep dry during the day with a good amount of sunshine, while there is a slight risk of a stray shower or two in the morning.

Monday is predicted to bring severe weather to areas of Iowa, Wisconsin, and Minnesota. This region is classified as having a Moderate Risk, or level 4 of 5, according to the Storm Prediction Center. Locally, NW Indiana is at a Marginal Risk, a level 1 of 5, and northeast Illinois is in a Slight Risk, a level 2 of 5.

Our risk of severe weather is very variable. It wouldn’t be until late Monday night or early Tuesday if storms might make it into Chicagoland.

This is usually not a good period for strong storms. Monday night’s potential for severe storms is limited by a number of reasons, but if the storms continue to intensify and make their way into our region, all dangers might materialize.

There is a risk of showers or storms in the beginning of Tuesday, but it will be dry and windy for much of the day, with highs in the low to mid-seventies.

Wednesday will see the arrival of cooler air with highs of about 60. Storms and sporadic showers are forecast for Wednesday through Thursday.

Temperatures will peak in the lower 60s on Friday when the skies clear off. With highs in the low to mid-60s on Saturday and close to 70 on Sunday, our weekend looks to be pleasant. The sky will be partly cloudy on Saturday and largely cloudy on Sunday.
