In May of 2025, beneficiaries of Supplemental Security Income (SSI) will get two payments as a result of a date adjustment that was made for days that are not considered business days.
Because the first of June is a Sunday, the payment that corresponds to the month of June will be moved up to the 30th of May.
When it comes to dates that fall on weekends or holidays, this procedure adheres to the usual regulation that is implemented by the Social Security Administration (SSA).
The rationale is as follows: when the first of a month falls on a Saturday, Sunday, or a federal holiday, payment is made on the final working day that precedes the first of the month.
This has a direct impact on the month of June in 2025, as the payment for that month is scheduled to be processed on Friday, May 30th, within the preceding month.
In the month of May, recipients of SSI will receive twice as much money
Since Thursday, May 1, 2025 is a business day, the payment for that month will continue to be made on the same date as it has been in the past.
Because of this, recipients will receive two payments in May: $967 for individuals and $1,450 for couples, according to the base amounts that were updated by the cost of living adjustment that was implemented in 2025, which was 2.5 percent.
This is because the deposit that corresponds to June has been brought forward before June.
Months of 2025 that have double SSI payments (due to the fact that the first of the following month comes on a weekend or holiday) — In these instances, the payment for the following month is advanced to the end of the month before:
Month Received | Payments Included | Advance Covers |
May | May Payment + June Advance Payment | June |
August | August Payment + September Advance Payment | September |
October | October Payment + November Advance Payment | November |
December | December Payment + January 2026 Advance Payment | January 2026 |
SSI payments in 2025 that are not made (because they were received in advance the month before) — In these instances, there is no payment on the first day of the month since the payment was received at the end of the previous month:
- June
- September
- November
- January 2026
This double payment “does not represent an increase in benefits, but rather a readjustment of dates due to the particularity of the calendar,” an SSA official we spoke with explained.
Since the deposit for June was already paid in May, there won’t be any more deposits made in that month.

Depending on the calendar, this scenario happens roughly once or twice a year.
More than 7.4 million Americans, including the elderly, the blind, and those with limited resources, receive aid through the SSI program.
Monthly payments are computed, and the SSA’s official calendar, which is accessible on its website, is used to notify parties of any date changes.
