On Monday, a frantic police chase began in Indiana and finished in Kentucky, including a stolen police car, shooting, and a man wielding a sword.
The incident began when authorities initiated a traffic stop near Chandler, just north of Evansville. The defendant, Nina Devillez, allegedly pulled a sword on officers, forcing one officer to fire multiple times, striking Devillez at least once.
According to officials, despite his injuries, Devillez stole a police cruiser and fled the scene.
Witness Brian Richardson, who recorded sections of the incident on film, recounted the bizarre moment.
“He got out wearing a helmet, pulled a sword, and then took the cop car,” Richardson told the reporter.
The pursuit lasted more than 30 miles, passing three counties and state lines. Law enforcement communicated with Devillez via radio, asking him to pull over for medical assistance.
The pursuit continued until Devillez crashed the stolen vehicle in a field in Daviess County, Kentucky.
Following the collision, Devillez attempted to leave on foot but was captured after being tased by a Rockport City police officer.
Authorities verified that Devillez was on bond for an attempted murder case in Lawrence County, Indiana, where he faced seven felony charges.
Daviess County Sheriff Brad Youngman told the public that the suspect is currently in custody and that there is no more threat. The incident is still under investigation.
