While clearing the scene of a head-on collision, the Texas Department of Public Safety has closed U.S. Route 77 close to Driscoll.

Sgt. Harold “Rob” Mallory of the DPS Texas Highway Patrol Corpus Christi District reported that state troopers from the Texas Highway Patrol responded to a collision on May 30 at 7:11 a.m.

According to him, a man was travelling north on the highway in a Mazda Tribute when the car veered into the southbound lanes and collided with an 18-wheeler.

The man was taken to the hospital after receiving medical attention.

Although Robstown Fire Department first responders had to remove the man from the vehicle following the collision, Mallory stated that he is unsure of the extent of the man’s injuries.

Although the tractor-trailer’s front end sustained significant damage in the collision, the driver was unharmed, he said.

Shortly after 11 a.m., Mallory announced that traffic on U.S. Route 77 is being diverted at the County Road 28 exit while debris from the crash scene is being removed.
