The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a deadly incident in Portage County involving four local teens driving a 2024 Camaro.
According to a press release, one of the youngsters died in the incident, while the other three were injured.
The collision occurred around 10 p.m. on Friday, April 11, on Scotts Corners Road, about a half mile northwest of Jones Road, in Palmyra Township.
According to troopers, a preliminary investigation suggests the Chevrolet Camaro veered off the right side of the road and into a ditch. The vehicle proceeded on, colliding with a utility post and numerous small trees before toppling.
According to officials, a 17-year-old female from Deerfield was driving the Camaro, with an 18-year-old male from Lake Milton in the front seat. In the backseat were a 17-year-old female from Kent, Ohio, and a 16-year-old guy from Palmyra.
“The 16-year-old rear-seat passenger succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene,” troopers stated in the press statement.
EMS evacuated the other three teens and treated them for minor injuries.
At this moment, troopers believe speed had a role in the incident.
