According to the Andrews County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO), a lady faces multiple charges after leading law officers on a high-speed chase from Andrews County into Lea County on Monday night.
At 5:05 p.m., ACSO got a call reporting a stolen Ford F-250 heading northbound on US 385 five miles south of Andrews.
Officials say deputies discovered the suspected stolen vehicle on State Highway 176 in Andrews. ACSO initiated a traffic stop, but the driver did not cooperate.
The alleged vehicle thief then led law police on a chase through New Mexico, reaching speeds of 90 mph, according to ACSO. The Andrews Police Department and the Andrews County Fire Marshal assisted in the pursuit.
While in New Mexico, the claimed stolen truck turned north on New Mexico State Highway 18. Officials used tyre deflation devices to stop the car, but the driver continued driving.
According to ACSO, when the suspected stolen vehicle arrived one mile south of Hobbs, the driver veered and hit a parked automobile on the east side of the highway before colliding with a building and coming to a halt.
The driver, Jasmine Jaramillo, 27, was subsequently arrested.
Jaramillo is accused with unauthorised use of a motor vehicle, avoiding arrest in a motor vehicle, and reckless driving in Texas, according to officials.
Both the driver of the parked vehicle and the suspect were sent to a nearby hospital for treatment of any injuries.
Jaramillo is being incarcerated at the Lea County Detention Centre while awaiting extradition.
Jaramillo’s charges are pending in New Mexico.
