A mother and Harris County deputies were caught off guard when a child was born.
Cypresswood Station deputies and EMS responded to a disturbance at a home. But that’s not what they discovered. Instead, they were present when a new life entered the earth.
“All of a sudden she pulls her pants down and she’s like the baby is coming out right now,” said deputy Christina Williams. “When we saw that she was crowning, we kind of went over the radio and you could hear the panic in our voice. Hey, where is EMS because this is happening now?”
According to deputies, the mother was unaware of her pregnancy and did not appear to be pregnant. They were initially skeptical.
“Seeing the shock on dad‘s face and everything that we needed to know and that’s when we were like OK let’s get our gloves on and let’s do whatever it is that we need to do,” Williams said.
They described it as a laser focus, with deputies and paramedics on the site. The contractions were rapid, and the baby girl was born after only a few pushes.
“Just happy they were there once the baby was ready to come out,” said Deputy Amariany Bravo.
Officers frequently arrive on someone’s worst day, but this one turned out to be the best.
“We were excited; we were also happy. I felt like an auntie,” said Williams.
Because the delivery was unexpected, the deputies have launched a baby-related fundraiser. Fellow deputies have already donated clothing and diapers. Anyone else who wants to help can make a donation at the Harris County Cypresswood Station in Spring.
