According to El Paso Police, a tow truck driver failed to stop in time at an intersection, causing a 12-vehicle collision that claimed one life and injured over six others.
The driver of the tow truck that was involved in the collision in Northwest El Paso this past Thursday, May 8, was also identified by the police.
According to police, a white semi-truck and a black trailer were disabled on Loop 375 at approximately six in the morning, according to the preliminary inquiry.
For some reason, the driver of the yellow tow truck—who has been named as 28-year-old Alfredo Campos—was unable to stop as it got closer to the intersection of Loop 375 and North Desert Road after being asked to remove both trailers from the road.
At the time of the collision, a 65-year-old passenger in the yellow tow vehicle perished. The man was not identified by the police.
Consequently, authorities said that 12 automobiles were involved in the collision, resulting in multiple injuries.
Five males and two women were hurt in the collision, according to the police. El Paso Fire first stated that eight persons were hurt, three of whom refused to be taken to a hospital.
Campos has not been charged in connection with the collision as of Friday, May 9.
The inquiry is still under progress. Compared to 23 last year, this is the 22nd death of the year.
