The family was crossing an Ohio bridge on Sunday evening when they were struck by a train. The train caused the death of a mother and her adult daughter, as well as the injury of a child. Rescue workers are still searching for a kid who is five years old in the river below, according to the officials.
The family was walking on the Mile Newton Bridge in Fremont, which is a small town in northern Ohio close to the shores of Lake Erie, when they were struck by a Norfolk Southern train at approximately 7:30 p.m., according to local media and the Fremont Fire Department.
According to reports, the victims were thrown from the bridge and into the icy waters of the Sandusky River.
A mother who was 58 years old and her daughter, who was 38 years old, were both pronounced dead at the site, and paramedics rushed the child to a hospital in Toledo, according to Mayor Danny Sanchez, who made the announcement during a press conference.
Sanchez spoke up and stated, “This is a tragedy that has struck our community that is extremely, extremely unfortunate.”
According to Sanchez, the victims were on a fishing trip in Fremont from Fort Wayne, Indiana. This type of excursion is frequent during this time of year because it is white bass season in the Sandusky River, and people travel from all over the country to fish.
While Sanchez was present at the scene, a large number of rescue professionals were working beyond him. “What we think started off as a fishing trip for a family from Fort Wayne, Indiana ended up in tragedy,” Sanchez said.
The incident was followed by a statement that was published by Norfolk Southern.
“We are deeply saddened by this tragedy and our hearts are with those affected, their loved ones, and the community during this difficult time,” according to the statement. “We are working closely with local authorities on their investigation.”
A significant number of local fire and rescue teams, as well as police and sheriff’s agencies, responded to the situation with an overwhelming amount of effort.

According to Sanchez, divers were still looking in the dark for the child who had gone missing at the age of five, and other teams were on their way.
According to sources, Senator Bernie Moreno, a Republican from Ohio, also reached out to Sanchez in an effort to give assistance.
At approximately 10:30 p.m., the train continued its journey.
