In Truth Social tweets on Sunday, President Donald Trump endorsed a number of House Republicans for reelection, including Representatives Andrew Garbarino of New York, Troy Downing of Montana, Guy Reschenthaler of Pennsylvania, and Bryan Steil of Wisconsin.
Trump sent separate posts to each congressman, each of which stated that the lawmaker in question had Trump’s support.
Although Republicans currently retain the majority in the House, whether they do so at the end of Trump’s second term in office will depend on the results of the 2026 midterm elections.
Garbarino’s failure to vote on the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” that cleared the House last week prompted Trump to express his support for him.
“Garbarino did not make it in time,” according to House Speaker Mike Johnson, because he had slept off.
“I am proud to have been the leading voice on Long Island during negotiations on this key reconciliation bill. I fought to lift the cap on SALT and ensure hardworking Long Island families see the benefits of this important legislation. I was moments away from the House floor, to vote ‘yes,’ when the vote was closed,” Garbarino stated.
“While I am frustrated that the vote was closed before I was able to cast my vote, I am proud of the work we accomplished to deliver huge results for Long Island. I congratulate President Trump on getting this bill passed and look forward to voting ‘yes’ when it comes back to the House floor from the Senate,” Garbarino stated.
Last week, Johnson praised Garbarino in a post on X.

“In addition to our committee chairs who worked overtime to deliver the One Big Beautiful Bill, we also want to thank @RepGarbarino. My great friend Andrew played an essential role in negotiations among Members, and is a primary reason we were able to secure the deals which allowed us to pass our nation-shaping legislation this morning,” Johnson stated.
“Andrew is highly regarded by me and all our Members as one of the most trusted, reliable, and talented colleagues in the House, and if it were not for his unique contributions and tireless efforts, we simply would not have achieved what we have in this Congress,” the speaker continued.
“Thank you, Mr. President, it’s an honor to serve NY-02,” Garbarino wrote in a post on X on Sunday night in response to the confirmation.
