Trump Orders Three-Month Extension of Federal Hiring Freeze

Trump Orders Three-Month Extension of Federal Hiring Freeze

The hiring freeze that President Donald Trump has imposed on the federal government has been extended for an additional three months.

In a memorandum that he issued on Thursday, President Trump prohibited the employment of civilians until July 15th.

“No federal civilian position that is presently vacant may be filled, and no new position may be created,” the memorandum specifically reads.

According to the paper, the extension does not apply to jobs inside the Executive Office of the President, positions relating to areas of national or public security, or positions within the military.

If the hiring freeze is not extended and it expires on July 15, agencies will only be able to hire one person for every four that leave federal employment, as stated in a fact sheet that was provided by the White House regarding the memorandum.

“The American people elected President Trump to drain the swamp and end ineffective government programs that empower government without achieving measurable results,” according to the informational document.

On his first day in office, President Trump put into effect a hiring freeze with the intention of reducing the size of the federal government and reducing wasteful spending.

Additionally, since his administration returned to the White House on January 20, it has carried out mass firings of tens of thousands of federal employees with the intention of accomplishing the same goal.
