In previous days, President Donald Trump’s administration gave exemptions from substantial reciprocal duties to smartphones, computers, and some other devices primarily imported from China, offering a significant benefit to tech businesses such as Apple that rely on imported items.
This is the latest episode in the administration’s string of u-turns, with tariffs applied and then placed on hold amid widespread uncertainty.
Donald Trump’s tariffs have the potential to drastically increase the cost of certain food items, owing to their effects on international trade and supply networks.
A significant amount of the fresh fruits and vegetables consumed in the United States are imported, primarily from Mexico. Tariffs on these imports would immediately raise their costs, and produce cultivated in the United States could face price hikes due to higher costs of imported fertilisers and other agricultural essentials.
