Two Teens Stabbed, One Man Shot During Pride Month Event in D.C.

While a Pride Month event was going on nearby, two adolescents were stabbed and another person was shot; police in Washington, D.C., are looking into the incidents.

Around 7 p.m. local time on Saturday, June 7, a brawl broke out in the city’s Dupont Circle district, resulting in the stabbing injuries of two males, ages 15 and 16.

Police have not disclosed the reason behind the altercation, but they told the Post in a statement that it happened between “groups of juveniles” in a park.

The victims seemed to be receiving treatment close east of the park on Massachusetts Avenue NW, a witness informed the source.

When the victims were taken by ambulance from the location of the event, Dupont Circle Park, to nearby hospitals, D.C. police informed the media that they were aware and breathing.

Their wounds weren’t thought to be life-threatening.

After police had evacuated the park after the stabbing, a shooting occurred just south of the park at approximately 7:50 p.m. Police informed that one man had been shot in the foot. He is anticipated to live because he was breathing and aware.

When the area was cleaned after the stabbing, police did not disclose if the man was there.

No arrests had been made as of June 7, and authorities were unable to verify whether the assaults were connected to the WorldPride D.C. parade celebrations that were happening nearby.

Following both instances, spectators were requested to leave the park, and representatives of the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) stated that the Pride procession finished at approximately 7:30 p.m.

During the investigation, the Dupont Circle Metro Station, which is adjacent, was closed. Later, by 10 p.m., the station was open again.

A common spot for Pride march participants to congregate following the procession is Dupont Circle Park. Prior to the festival, the park was closed, but the National Park Service and the mayor’s office of D.C. agreed to remove the barricades.

On June 7, Brooke Pinto, a council member from Washington, D.C., spoke out about the shootings and stabbings, describing them as “absolutely unacceptable.”

“There were several stabbings and a shooting at Dupont Circle and it is now closed. This is absolutely unacceptable,” she stated on X. “Please stay safe and if you are at the circle, time to leave.”
