Two women arrested after standoff in Horseheads over stolen property, drugs, and guns

Deputies reported that thousands of dollars’ worth of goods were taken from a house in Elmira Heights during a standoff in the Village of Horseheads on Friday, leading to the arrest of two suspects on multiple felony charges.

On Friday, May 2, 147 Matthews Circle residents Jennifer Savage, 44, and April Greene, 45, were taken into custody on the following charges:

Savage:

  • Criminal possession of stolen property in the third degree, a class D felony.
  • Grand larceny in the third degree, a class D felony.
  • Criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree, a class A misdemeanor.
  • Criminal possession of a controlled substance, a class A misdemeanor.

Greene:

  • Criminal possession of stolen property in the third degree, a class D felony.
  • Grand larceny in the third degree, a class D felony.

After a confrontation near Horseheads on Friday, May 2, Greene and Savage were arrested along with two other people.

The civil division of the sheriff’s office executed an eviction warrant at a residence on West 11th Street in the Village of Elmira Heights on April 30, according to the sheriff’s office. 

An investigation into the items was initiated when deputies received a report that personal belongings valued at thousands of dollars had been taken from the residence.

After determining that the stolen goods were located at 147 Matthews Circle, deputies took additional measures to verify their presence.

According to the sheriff’s office, a search warrant was obtained and carried out on Friday, which led to the recovery of the stolen items, including a parrot, as well as the discovery of illicit firearms and drugs.

After visiting the house, Village of Horseheads Code Enforcement declared it uninhabitable. Only between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. are occupants allowed to access the house to tend to any animals that are still there or to address any violations of the village code. If someone is discovered inside the house after specified hours, they could be arrested.

The parrot was given back to its owner, and four dogs were taken out of the house.

After being processed in the Town of Horseheads Court, Greene and Savage were both set free. According to the sheriff’s office, the other two people arrested during the warrant search were not charged.

More arrests are anticipated as the investigation continues.
