NORTH SHELBY

– A staple for many on U.S. Highway 280 has announced its plans to close its doors, marking the end of another business along the 280 corridor.

Crazy Cajuns’ Boiling Pot, located at 125 Inverness Plaza, stated in a Facebook post on June 12 that its last day of service will be on Saturday, June 21, ending 28 years of service to the North Shelby community.

The Cajun-style restaurant first opened in June 1997 by Robert and Lulu Regard, who used to family recipes from their roots in Louisiana to create the Cajun delicacies that are served today.

The popular restaurant shared a large variety of Louisiana cuisine with its customers, showcasing a large menu.

Patrons could start with something from the eatery’s selection of appetizers, including their jambalaya, red beans and rice, shrimp etouffee and variety of gumbos.

A wide selection of po’ boys were also available to choose from as a main course, each with a different source of protein. There were traditional meats to choose from such as chicken or catfish, while others featured coastal and Cajun selections like oysters, fried shrimp, andouille sausage and crawfish.

The restaurant also put Cajun spins on some popular non-Cajun dishes, making a fried shrimp quesadilla with fried shrimp from the Gulf and Cajun corn. There was also Creole meatloaf and a smothered pork roast, among others.

Aside from the entrees, the restaurant showcased their platters off the grill, as well as the various Cajun pasta dishes that are traditional to Louisiana.

The Regards chose to sell the restaurant in October 2022 after they made the decision to retire from the restaurant business as a whole.

The Hwy 280 corridor has recently become a popular place for new businesses to settle into, as many chicken chains have taken over the area as of late.

Popeye’s Louisiana Kitchen is currently in development near Arby’s, taking the place of a former Burger King. Popular chain Raising Cane’s recently announced its plans to open where the old Lloyd’s was next to Hamburger Heaven. Super Chix also opened its doors in April 2024.

More updates on what will take the popular establishment’s place will be posted at Shelbycountyreporter.com.
