Update: Thunderstorms with nickel-sized hail in Central Alabama Friday – gusts to hit 40 mph

At 2:27 p.m. on Friday, the National Weather Service updated its forecast, predicting severe thunderstorms in Autauga, Lowndes, and Montgomery counties through 3 p.m.

Be ready for wind gusts of up to 40 mph and hail the size of a nickel (0.88 inches).

“At 2:27 p.m., Doppler radar tracked a strong thunderstorm over southwestern Montgomery, moving west at 10 mph,” according to the weather service. Gusty winds have the potential to blow around unsecured objects and topple tree branches. There is a chance of minor hail damage to vegetation.
