Elon Musk announced the America Party in response to President Donald Trump’s comprehensive tax cuts package, claiming to be fulfilling his vow to start a new political party following his split with the president.
Musk, who was formerly Trump’s constant partner when leading the Department of Government Efficiency, a cutting agency, severed ties with the Republican president over his centerpiece legislation, which was signed into law on Friday.
Musk promised to start the America Party if this crazy spending measure passed Congress as it was being passed.
Musk stated on Saturday on X, the social media platform he owns, that we live in a one-party system rather than a democracy when it comes to destroying our nation through corruption and waste. The America Party was established today to restore your freedom.
When reporters questioned Trump about the endeavor on Sunday afternoon as he was getting ready to leave his home in New Jersey and head back to Washington, he referred to Musk’s proposal as absurd and continued to highlight his enormous success with the Republican Party.
Trump continued, “It’s always been a two-party system, but the Democrats have lost their way.” Additionally, I believe that adding a third party only makes things more confusing. Although it appears to have been developed, three parties have never been successful.
Trump claimed on Truth Social that Musk had gone totally insane and had basically turned into a TRAIN WRECK in the previous five weeks.”
Third parties have never been successful in the US, Trump continued. The Radical Left Democrats have lost their heads and their confidence, and we have had enough of the one thing that Third Parties are skilled at: causing complete and total chaos and disruption!
Although it is not unusual for new political parties to emerge, they usually have difficulty stealing any substantial support from the Democratic and Republican parties. However, Musk, the richest man in the world, might influence the 2026 elections that determine control of Congress if he is prepared to spend a sizable sum of money. Musk spent at least $250 million backing Trump in the 2024 election.
Musk’s companies depend on billions of dollars in government contracts, and his publicly traded company Tesla has suffered in the market. His rekindled dispute with the president might potentially be costly.
Whether Musk had actually taken action to establish the new political party was unclear. On Sunday, representatives for Musk and America PAC, his political action group, did not immediately respond.
With variations of the America Party of DOGE or X in the name, or Musk named among those connected to the organization, several political parties have emerged in the hours following Musk’s Saturday X post, according to the Federal Election Commission database as of Sunday morning.
However, none of them seemed genuine, presenting the organization’s contacts as untraceable Protonmail addresses or email addresses like wentsnowboarding@yahoo.com.
Musk said he will use the party to participate in the 2026 midterm elections after spending Sunday morning on X gathering user opinions about the party.
He threatened to try to remove all of the members of Congress who supported Trump’s bill last month. Among other criticisms, Musk has referred to the tax perks and expenditure cuts plan as a repulsive abomination and warned that it would raise the government debt.
Musk claimed on X on Sunday that the Republican Party, which controls the legislative, executive, and judicial departments, STILL HAS THE AUTHORITY to drastically increase the size of government and raise the national debt by a record FIVE TRILLION DOLLARS.
He reversed course in May, when his tenure in the White House was coming to an end and the CEO of electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla and rocket business SpaceX declared he would spend much less on politics going forward, by criticizing the measure and forming a political party.
On CNN’s State of the Union on Sunday, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, who had a falling out with Musk when he was running DOGE, stated that while DOGE’s ideals were popular, Elon was not, according to the polls.
He remarked, “I assume that the board of directors was not pleased with this announcement yesterday and will be urging him to concentrate on his business endeavors rather than his political activities.”
