Whether you join the game table in person, or from the comfort of your sofa via an online casino website – when it comes to this classic game of chance, there are many ways to place a bet on your prediction of the game’s outcome.
Using the table layout, which incidentally corresponds with the layout of the wheel, to place your wager on where you think the ball will land, there are two sections in which you could place your chips – in the inside area or the outside.
But, what’s the difference?
The difference between the inside and outside areas
When looking at the Roulette table when you play live Roulette online, there’s a very colourful section, with boxes filled with numbers, that have also been coloured in either red or black. On top of the number section, is a green section housing a single zero, or a single and double zero – depending on which variation of the game you’re playing.
This numbered area of the table layout is what’s known as the inside bet area. Any bets placed within this section of the table will be known as an inside bet.
The section of boxes that are not included in the numbered layout, which instead state things such as ‘1st of 12’, ‘low’, ’19-36’, ‘odd’, or sometimes contain red and black diamonds – is what’s known as the outside bet area. Any betting chips placed within these boxes are known as outside bets.
Now you know the betting areas on the table, let’s find out about the types of bets you can place in those sections.
Inside Bets
- Straight Up – This is when you place a wager on a single number, such as 11. If your single number wins the game, you’ll be paid 35:1.
- Split – This is when you use a betting chip(s) to place a wager on two numbers in one go. To do this, you place your chip(s) on the line between the two numbers. The numbers will need to be next to each other on the table layout, either to the side or above/below the other. If one of your two numbers wins the game, you’ll be paid 17:1.
- Basket – This bet requires at least four betting chips. You’ll need to place at least one chip on the numbers 0, 1, 2 and 3. This bet is also known as a ‘Top Four’ or ‘First Four’ bet. If one of the four numbers wins the game, you’ll be paid 8:1.
Outside Bets
- Odd / Even – Placing a wager on either odd or even, will cover all odd or even numbers found on the wheel. If any of the numbers that fall within that type wins the game, you’ll be paid 1:1 of even money.
- Red / Black – If you’d rather place a wager on the colour of the number or pocket of the wheel, this bet allows you to do so. Placing a wager on either the red or black box on the table layout will ensure your bet is covering all numbers and pockets of that colour. If any number of that colour wins the game, you’ll be paid 1:1 Of even money.
- Low / 1 – 18 / High / 19 – 36 – These boxes cover all numbers within their range, so that if any number wins the game, you’ll receive a payout of 1:1 of even money.
