Woman charged with murder after allegedly plowing into 4 pedestrians, killing 1 in Minneapolis

According to police, a Minnesota woman struck four individuals with her automobile, one of whom passed away from her injuries, and was charged with second-degree murder.

On April 30, the day after she reportedly collided with four pedestrians in Minneapolis in her Honda Accord, Sophia Sullivan, 38, was arrested and sent to the Hennepin County Jail. A criminal complaint acquired by local Fox station KSMP claims that at approximately 6:19 p.m., Sullivan struck two pedestrians, a teenage girl and a woman in her 40s, as they were crossing an intersection in an authorised crosswalk after running a red light.

The complaint claims that Sullivan’s destructive trajectory persisted. Shortly after, according to the lawsuit, Sullivan reportedly “accelerated” as two further pedestrians, a lady and a guy in his 30s, passed through a second crosswalk farther down the street.

The second encounter was caught on camera and clearly showed Sullivan’s alleged behaviour. According to the criminal complaint, Sullivan allegedly “accelerated to a high speed and ploughed directly into them” after driving “parallel” to the two and then the two entered the crosswalk.

The complaint claims that a parked car threw the man thirty feet into the air before landing him. According to reports, the woman was flung onto Sullivan’s car’s hood before Sullivan applied the brakes, sending her to the curb. Sullivan allegedly “appeared to swerve the car towards [the woman] and ran her over,” according to the lawsuit.

While the woman was “lodged” under Sullivan’s car, Sullivan allegedly “continued to drive down the road, dragging [the woman] under the car.” Sullivan then allegedly swerved back and forth, eventually dislodging the woman, whom she allegedly ran over again with her rear tires.

According to KSMP, the first two suspected victims had burns and wounds. The individual involved in the second alleged incident was sent to the hospital due to abrasions, scratches, and a fractured wrist. On May 2, the woman passed away after suffering severe injuries.

When police located Sullivan’s car at her apartment complex, they discovered “fresh blood” on it along with a cracked windscreen. According to KSMP, Sullivan’s licence was cancelled in 2015.

On April 30, Sullivan was taken into custody and placed under $2 million bond at the Hennepin County Jail. Five counts of illegal vehicular operation, three counts of attempted second-degree murder, three counts of second-degree assault with a deadly weapon, and one count of second-degree murder were all brought against her. On June 3, she is expected to appear in court again.
