Woman clocked at 90 mph in 35 zone flips car during chase in Snellville

After leading police on a high-speed pursuit that resulted in her car flipping several times in front of South Gwinnett High School, a 22-year-old woman is being charged with a felony.

Taylor Marie Brooks of Villa Rica was recognized as the driver by Snellville police.

The chase started late last Thursday night on Highway 78 near Fountain Drive, the same spot where police started a chase with another driver for allegedly street racing earlier in the week, officers told Channel 2 Gwinnett County Bureau Chief Matt Johnson.

Investigators claim that at approximately 11 p.m., Brooks was caught by Snellville police traveling 90 mph in a 35 mph zone. According to police, Brooks accelerated when the officer attempted to stop her.

“This particular officer actually races cars off duty and has quite a bit of experience at chasing cars,” said Det. Jeff Manley. “He’s probably not the person to run from.”

Manley claimed that following a chase that he estimated reached 100 miles per hour, Brooks lost control close to South Gwinnett High School.

“Struck the curb and flipped the vehicle over multiple times,” he said.

The vehicle violently flipped before coming to a rest, according to footage captured by the officer’s dash camera. Later, Brooks was observed scuttling from the debris. Nobody else was hurt.

“If you kill somebody else on the road, it’s vehicular homicide,” Manley said.

This was the second high-speed chase in the neighborhood in a few days, according to the police. Despite having a speeding and distracted driving detail currently in place, officers intend to enhance patrols.

“We’re definitely going to be watching a little bit more to make sure, because it seems like we’ve had two occurrences now within 48 hours,” Manley said.

Along with a speeding infraction, Brooks faces felony charges of escaping and eluding.
