According to authorities, a man died and a woman is in serious but stable condition following a single-vehicle incident near the Denver-Aurora boundary Sunday morning.
At 3:45 a.m. on Sunday, Denver and Aurora police officers responded to the junction of East Montview Boulevard and Yosemite Street. Following an initial inquiry, police determined that a white Chevy Silverado was driving south on Central Park Boulevard in Denver.
Witnesses told police that the pickup ran a red light at the crossing, then went off the left side of the road and collided head-on with a traffic signal pole on the southeast corner of the intersection in Aurora. Police stated the truck rotated 45 degrees to the left and collided with the traffic control signal box on the driver’s side, knocking out power to the signal lights.
According to authorities, good Samaritans pulled the driver and passenger from the vehicle to provide aid.
The 20-year-old female driver was taken to a hospital and believed to be in serious but stable condition. The 21-year-old male passenger was pronounced deceased on the spot.
Police suspect speed and alcohol were factors in the incident, and charges are expected once a blood test is completed. The Aurora agency reported that this is the ninth fatal traffic crash in 2025.
