17-year-old Crashes after High-Speed chase in Stolen car, faces Grand Theft Auto charges

A 17-year-old girl faces grand theft auto charges after leading Riverside police on a chase that resulted in an accident.

According to the Riverside Police Department, the incident began about 11:30 p.m. Saturday when investigators discovered a stolen vehicle near Columbia Avenue and the 215 Freeway. The vehicle refused to stop over, leading them on a brief pursuit that ended at the 91 Freeway.

According to authorities, the young driver left the freeway at Madison Avenue at high speeds before colliding with a traffic signal box and flipping down an embankment. The car ended up in the parking lot of a 24 Hour Fitness.

Both the girl and the teen passenger were removed and taken to the hospital. They have since been released to their parents.
