32-year-old woman hits 2 patrol cars, fence in Mesa County wild police chase; Arrested

A woman was detained Wednesday morning after reportedly attempting to flee from law enforcement and causing damage to a fence and three vehicles, including two patrol cars.

Mesa County deputies got a report at 8:30 a.m. that a female driver, Nicole Carpenter, 32, of Grand Junction, was throwing trash out the window of her automobile in the Clifton Nature Park near D and 32 1/4 roads. Carpenter apparently yelled at the reporter, who then fled the scene.

When the first deputy entered the parking lot, the suspect attempted to flee. She then reportedly collided with a responding patrol car.

Carpenter apparently backed into another patrol vehicle before turning and colliding with a parked car. She allegedly attempted to drive over a barrier around the parking lot before being pinned down by deputies, according to the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office.

Carpenter reportedly refused to exit her vehicle but was eventually rescued after a brief confrontation.

Carpenter is also linked to two instances within the last month, according to the sheriff’s office. She was brought into custody and lodged into the Mesa County Detention Facility for the following charges:

  • Littering
  • Driving with a revoked license
  • Three counts of reckless endangerment
  • Reckless driving
  • Vehicular eluding
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia
  • Unlawful possession of a controlled substance
  • Criminal mischief totaling $5,000 or more but less than $20,000
  • Resisting arrest
  • Obstructing a peace officer
  • Second-degree criminal trespass
  • Possession of a dangerous weapon
  • Forgery
  • Parole violation

According to MCSO, the fence damage cost around $3,000. Although two patrol vehicles were destroyed during the event, no one was hurt.
