According to the Georgia State Patrol, four persons were detained Friday following a stolen automobile chase that resulted in a wreck, a foot chase, and a brief lockdown at Tucker Middle School.
According to officials, the incident began at 2:40 p.m. when a trooper noticed a black Kia Rio that had been reported stolen on Brockett Road near Stone Mountain Parkway. As another trooper approached with lights and sirens, the driver almost hit the trooper’s vehicle before driving away.
A chase occurred, and at Lawrenceville Highway and Brockett Road, the motorist sideswiped three vehicles while driving slowly through the junction. The vehicle continued to run, avoiding a PIT maneuver by jumping curbs into surrounding parking lots. The car eventually smashed into a fence along Fellowship Road, and all of the passengers fled the vehicle.
One suspect was apprehended instantly by a trooper’s K-9. DeKalb County Police apprehended two others shortly after. The final suspect was found near the Tucker Middle School grounds. Authorities say the individual never reached the school grounds, but the district stated that the lockdown was just a precaution.
Officials claimed a local TV chopper spotted the final suspect sprinting along Fellowship Road near Idlewood Avenue. The man escaped into the neighboring woods but was finally apprehended by troopers and DeKalb County officers.
Tucker Middle School’s lockdown was lifted once all pupils had been safely dismissed.
The Georgia State Patrol is leading the inquiry.
