58-year-old Motorcyclist dies after chain-reaction Crash on 101 in Ventura

A biker died in a crash with several other cars on the 101 Freeway in Ventura County on Sunday afternoon.

A statement from the California Highway Patrol says that at 2:50 p.m., police were sent to the southbound lanes of the freeway, just north of California Street, after multiple reports of a crash involving several cars and a motorbike.

A 58-year-old man from Thousand Oaks was riding a motorcycle when they got there. He was lying in the road. He was taken to a nearby hospital right away, but cops said he was already dead when they got there.

His name has not been given yet.

According to the police, the accident happened when a Volkswagen SUV slowed down and stopped in the first lane because of traffic ahead. Along with that, a Tesla Model 3 and a BMW 330e were also moving more slowly in different lanes.

“As they were slowing down, an additional BMW 330i failed to observe traffic slowing in front of him and rear-ended the black BMW 330e,” the CHP said. “The impact caused the BMW 330e to travel in a southwesterly direction, coming to a rest in the number three lane.”

Police say the BMW 330i went off the road and hit a concrete center divider before hitting the Tesla in the first lane.

“During the sequence of events, the black Indian Scout motorcycle approached from the rear and was unable to stop in time, striking the rear of the Tesla,” CHP’s statement said. “The impact ejected the motorcyclist, who struck the Tesla before landing on the roadway.”

There were no reports of any other major injuries in the crash. By 5 p.m., all lanes were open again.

CHP Officer Daniel Perez is the officer in charge of the investigation and wants to hear from anyone who knows more about what happened.
