High-speed chase ends in fatal Police shooting on bridge over Santa Ana River

Following a risky high-speed pursuit that culminated in a PIT maneuver and a severe crash on a bridge over the Santa Ana River on Wednesday night, Orange County police opened fire on and killed a suspect.

Neither the precise time the Anaheim Police Department officers started the pursuit nor the reason the man was wanted are known.

During the pursuit, the driver of a white pickup truck was observed speeding through intersections, swerving through traffic, colliding with other cars, and losing one of the vehicle’s tires while carrying a passenger.

Before proceeding to surface streets and onto State College Boulevard, where police officers made multiple fruitless attempts to spin the suspect’s car out, the culprit briefly resided on the 91 Freeway in the Fullerton area.

At last, police were able to effectively execute a PIT maneuver on the Santa Ana River bridge, which is situated between Garden Grove Boulevard on the west side and Memory Lane on the east.

After swerving and colliding with a bridge guardrail, the pickup truck rebounded back onto the road and struck the center divider of the bridge.

As smoke poured out from underneath the suspect’s car, police surrounded it and started shooting at the truck.

The truck’s passenger turned himself in to the police right away and was led off. Whether they were hurt is unknown.

The driver of the truck was still inside when officers were observed firing multiple rounds of what looked to be non-lethal ammunition at it. Officers lined up and eventually made their way to the car where the subject was allegedly lying.

Orange County Fire Authority paramedics pronounced the suspect deceased at the scene after requesting medical assistance.
