Kamala Harris’s Stepdaughter Ella Emhoff Aligns With Socialist Candidate in NYC Race

Ahead to Zohran Mamdani’s rally at Brooklyn Steel on Sunday, Ella Emhoff, the stepdaughter of Kamala Harris, the unsuccessful presidential candidate, formally endorsed the Democratic socialist candidate for mayor of New York City.

The same evening when hundreds of millennials and Gen Zers crowded into the music venue for the left-leaning politician’s campaign event, the 25-year-old fashion designer and Brooklyn resident demonstrated support for the card-carrying member of the Democratic Socialists of America.

Before the candidate’s address, Emhoff, whose father is former second gentleman Doug Emhoff, posted a video of herself and Mamdani together at Brooklyn Steel on Instagram.

Before the camera shifted to Mamdani, she riffed off the social media fad of “passing the phone” by saying, “I’m passing the phone to the next mayor of New York City who’s going to make New York happier, healthier, and more affordable.”

The assemblyman from Queens tweeted Sunday night, “Thankful for Ella Emhoff’s support in our fight to make New York City more affordable.”

Before Emhoff’s turn to speak, Brooklyn Councilman Chi Osse, 27, who also made an appearance in the support video, called her a pro-abortion “New York City ‘It’ girl”.

The Emhoff endorsement coincides with appearances by other celebs at the Sunday rally, which was less of a regular campaign event and more of a party, including comedian Jaboukie Young-White and actor Kal Penn from “Harold and Kumar.”

Volunteers set up a photo booth and distributed free yellow bandanas with New York-themed patterns to the roughly 2,000 fans that crowded Brooklyn Steel. Young supporters gathered in a lengthy line inside the booth at one point to snap a photo with Mamdani.

With the June 24 primary only a few weeks away, there was also a huge push during the gathering to recruit additional volunteers to canvass on Mamdani’s behalf. At one point, Penn and a campaign field manager took the stage and performed a door-knocking role-play.

While criticizing President Trump and attacking mayoral candidate Andrew Cuomo, Mamdani reiterated his calls for universal childcare, a rent freeze, and city-owned food stores.

“We are living in a moment of intense fear and despair,” Mamdani stated.

“Too many of us are struggling under the weight of work that takes too much but doesn’t pay enough, all while costs continue to rise.”

As the disgraced former governor makes a political return, Mamdani has routinely done worse than Cuomo in polls.
