New York father enraged after dog attacked boy playing in park; wants dog's owner to take responsibility

After a young Brooklyn boy was attacked by his dog at a neighbourhood park last month, resulting in injuries that necessitated numerous stitches, the boy’s family is calling for the pet owner to be held responsible.

On April 14, after baseball practice, Angel Sanchez was playing with his father in Thomas Boyland Park in Bushwick when he was attacked at random by a dog that his family claimed was a pit bull. According to the outlet’s surveillance footage, Angel is seen sprinting across the field when a dog approaches behind him and appears to bite the child’s back leg.

Henry Sanchez, his father, reported in Spanish, “I noticed because of my son’s screams,” and that it “happened so fast.”

“Just relentless in his attack,” said Tony Nunez, a close friend and witness who spoke to the local news outlet.

On Saturday, May 3, a representative for the New York Police Department reported that at approximately 6:50 p.m. local time, police received a complaint regarding “a vicious animal in a park” at 9 Aberdeen Street. Police came to find a 7-year-old boy who had been jumped by a dog and who “sustained a bite mark to his lower back and scratches on his right leg.”

The statement went on to say, “The male was transported by EMS to Maimonides Medical Centre in stable condition.”

Angel, who hopes to play for the New York Yankees in the future, told the news outlet about the scenario.

The youngster claimed, “I didn’t see it, he was going behind me,” “I pushed him away, but he got me again, and then I screamed.”

Nine stitches were needed for the injuries, as per reports. Angel’s injuries were on his legs, thigh, and lower back and he remembered “bleeding and crying.”

Angel’s father said that he grabbed the dog and then bit it in the neck to get it to let Angel go after running from home plate to right field to assist his son during the attack. According to the source, the CCTV footage also showed the owner beating the dog in an attempt to convince it to let Angel go.

Witness Nunez recounted the incident, saying, “We had to run out to the outfield and beat on the dog so that the dog [could] leave the kid alone.”

Regarding the owner of the dog, Angel’s father said in Spanish to the outlet that the man “left and didn’t come back.”

The father now claims that he wants the dog’s owner and the dog to be held responsible for Angel’s attack.

Police have subsequently failed to find the dog and its owner, who first tried to assist before fleeing the scene.
