A hit-and-run occurred late Saturday night, killing one person and injuring another.
According to Moncks Corner Police Chief Lee Mixon, the crash occurred around 11:30 p.m. near 1350 US Highway 52.
Two persons were walking to their car when the driver of a black Mazda CX5 struck them.
Both were transferred to a nearby hospital with injuries, but one of the victims did not survive.
Chief Deputy Coroner Kelly Powell identified the victim as Tonya Frazier, 51, of North Charleston.
Chief Mixon stated that the car should have significant front-end damage.
Anyone with information on the vehicle’s location and driver is asked to contact Berkeley County dispatch at 843-719-4505.
“We are devastated by this tragic loss of life and want to remind all drivers, if they are involved in a collision, to stop and provide assistance. We thank our law enforcement partners from the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Department for their assistance, as well as the response from the Fire and EMS service” said Chief Mixon.
