Payment dates for May 2025 have been released by the Social Security Administration (SSA), with adjustments made based on beneficiary groups’ birth ranges and business days.
Other payments will be made on Wednesdays, May 14, 21, and 28, depending on the date of birth, and on May 2 (per weekend adjustment), while those who are claiming Supplemental Security Income (SSI) will get their money on May 1.
The amounts vary based on the type of benefit, with averages and maximums reflecting the 2.5% Cost of Living increases (COLA 2025). The average retirement amount is $1,976, and for those who postponed their application, it may exceed $5,108.
According to official SSA data, the maximum sums under the SSI program are $1,450 for couples and $967 for individuals.
The May SSA calendar with a few minor adjustments
Beneficiaries from prior to 1997 who receive payments on the third of each month will receive their money on May 2 if the third falls on a Saturday.
In accordance with customary procedure, the SSA pushes weekend payments to the prior working day. This has no bearing on state programs; it solely relates to federal assistance.
Three Wednesdays are designated for payments based on birthdate: May 14 (born 1–10), May 21 (born 11–20), and May 28 (21-31).
These dates prevent overlaps and guarantee prompt processing because they are verified in the official calendar.
The maximum retirement benefits are determined by the age at which the claim is filed: $2,831 if the claim is filed at age 62, $4,018 if the claim is filed at full retirement age (67), and $5,108 if the claim is filed until age 70.
The maximum contributions made during the course of one’s working life are used to determine these figures.

All beneficiaries, regardless of the age at when they applied for the benefit, are included in the average of $1,976.
The monthly average for SSDI is $1,580; there is no set maximum amount. This benefit is determined by the SSA using prior wages and years of employment.
According to eligibility guidelines posted on ssa.gov, SSI caps are set but could be lowered if recipients surpass income or resource thresholds.

A June-related advance payment made in May
Because June 1 falls on a Sunday, SSI claimants will get their advance payment on May 30, which is June. The May cigar is unaffected by this change.
Under the weekend priority rule, those who receive both Social Security and SSI will get their federal contributions on May 2.
