The Crime of the Week for Crime Stoppers of El Paso is a sports car driver suspected of attempting to hit an El Paso police officer while fleeing the scene.
Crime Stoppers is looking for the public’s assistance in identifying the driver of a silver Nissan 370Z, who is accused of committing at least three criminal vehicle evasions in the last six months.
The vehicle has New Mexico license plates and a visible Texas registration sticker on the windscreen.
El Paso police officers stopped the Nissan 370Z near Lee Trevino Drive and Vista Del Sol Drive on the East Side. Crime Stoppers reported that the driver “suddenly fled” during the traffic check.
A police officer stopped the same vehicle for a traffic violation in the 4100 block of Rich Beem Boulevard, near Montana Avenue on the extreme East Side. Crime Stoppers said that the driver escaped again during the traffic stop.
Police, aware of previous escapes, noticed the automobile and attempted to apprehend the driver in the 400 block of Tays Street in the Segundo Barrio. The automobile drove into the lawn and allegedly approached an officer before escaping, according to Crime Stoppers.
